Match Report vs TCC 4th June

MCC27th June 2011 667 Views

A friendly fixture against a very friendly team with five MCC members actually playing for the competition and MCC able to field only nine players. Howerever, full of confidence after the win over Erlangen last week we still thought we could do it. Tegernsee won the toss and chose to put MCC in to bat in what was agreed to be a 35 over innings.
Brunskill and Sestan opened putting on 9 before Brunskill fell for 2, caught by Tony Mayger, an MCC member. O`Meagher came in and took a long time to play himself in, scoring only 2 runs off 24 balls before playing some aggressive strokes and putting on 43 for the second wicket with Sestan who went for nine with the score on 51, the fifty coming up in fifty minutes. Algar joined his Kiwi partner and they put on 45 for the third wicket before Algar left for 23 having been caught off Mayger’s bowling, to the great delight of the Mayger family who were operating the scoreboard. Goldsack, yet another Kiwi, came in and they put on 82 for the fourth wicket before O`Meagher finally departed for 79 off 83 balls, caught by Lovell after 34.3 overs. Captain Weston came to the crease and scored 8 runs off the three balls available to him leaving MCC on 184 – 4 after 35 overs.
Shankarappa and Wright opened the bowling against Tilak and Hoeck who scored very quickly with Maxi Hoeck in particular playing some very impressive straight hits for six. They put on 87 before Tilak fell to the wily Hobbs for 18 in the 11th over. He was replaced by Jack to give us the interesting spectacle of Hobbs bowling to Jack. Maxi Hoeck went at last in the 17th over, again to Hobbs, having scored 72 runs off 46 balls, a truly remarkable innings and a joy to watch. The third and fourth wickets put on 3, 31 and 40 respectively with Lovell, another MCC member finishing not out on 27. The other MCC members, Robinson, Carr, Miller and Mayger did not get a bat as Tegernsee reached their target of 185 with five down in 32.3 overs.
