Match Report vs Tegernsee (16 May 2015)

MCC18th May 2015 737 Views

It was a day to welcome our old friends from Tegernsee to the Hirschanger, sunshine, 21 °C and the exciting prospect of contesting for the wide boys of the year event. Captain Weston won the toss and chose to bat, opening with new boy Bowes and Toke to face up to Yash and Charles. They bowled tightly and after 5 overs the score was 15 for 0, 8 of the runs being wides. In the 11th over the first wicket fell, Bowes being given LBW off Christof, who happily returned after an 18 month fight against stomach cancer. Welcome back Christof. Actually the wicket was a gift from umpire Kantor, he being the only one not to see the ball hit the bat first but revenge was coming. Toke also went LBW in the 17th over soon to be followed by Weston, both falling to Mo in his one and only over which went for 10 runs with two wickets, 8 of the runs being wides. At the drinks break MCC were 80 for 5 down. The next wicket fell in the 27th over, Chakrabarty being bowled for 20, the highest score off the bat in the innings. In the next over Alagh departed for 10 and in the next Zazai went for 6 having learned a few defensive shots since Thursday. Blades and elder statesman Carr put on a useful 28 for the ninth wicket before Carr was caught for 10 and, in the same over, Blades was bowled by Christof for 5. MCC finished with 142 but Tegernsee had put down a real challenge bowling 50 wides and 4 no-balls.

After teas, Mo and Chakry opened the batting for Tegernsee to face MCC opening bowlers Bhamare and Blades. Bhamare was seriously competing for the wide boys event and, in his three overs, bowled 10 of them. He was soon outdone by Zazai who, in his 5.1 overs, bowled 17 wide balls – and took four wickets, almost as an afterthought. Blades bowled no wides at all and Kettle –a joy to see some flighted spin bowling again – bowled only one as well as a no-ball. Tegensee were all out for 101 so lost the match but won the wide boys award as MCC only managed 37 in their 18.1 overs.
