Match report vs CC Bavaria (01 Jun 2014)

MCC2nd June 2014 470 Views

After the severe hammering handed out by the MICs last week, we were a little more optimistic having held the first training session on Friday at the Hirschanger  after its reopening.

CCB though are a bit of a bogey team for us for often we play them early in the season and they put the kybosh on our dreams of being league champions. Nevertheless the team was on time to watch the captain lose the toss – this is becoming a habit – and MCC were asked to bat. The start of the innings was anything but auspicious, Veser falling second ball for his first ever MCC duck. He wasn`t alone though, three others joined him, two of them to rather village run outs – if you crash the ball straight to a fielder lads it is probably not a good idea to go haring down the pitch. MCC were four down for 35 after six overs Fortunately Sarma, Rabbani, Carrie and Nielsen all made some useful scores and MCC finished on 195 for 9 after forty overs.

There was some amount of jealousy by the MCC opening bowlers who were clearly put out by the entries in the duck race which didn`t include them so they decided to do something about the wide boys table. After three overs CCB were 17 for 0 and of the 17 runs only three came off the bat. Thereafter they found their lines and Garner got the first wicket in the fourth over with keeper Furlonger taking the first of his four catches. Actually he should have had a fifth and a stumping but the umpires didn`t agree. The fielding was good, everyone very keen and allowing no easy singles. The bowlers continued to keep it tight and wickets fell regularly. The best CCB partnership was 44 for the eighth wicket between Roy and Simran which Rabbani put an end to with Furlonger’s fourth catch. CCB finished on 173 for nine after their 40 overs.
