Match reports vs MICs (20 Apr 2014)

MCC21st April 2014 190 Views

Just as we did last week we met at the MICs ground at 12.30 ready for a 1 pm start. The weather was fairly cool but with some sunny intervals the temperature occasionally got up to about 16°C.

Captain Rabbani duly lost the toss and we were asked to field first which, as the MICs had only eight players there, suited them down to the ground. Their openers, Johnson and Munish were not to be the cannon fodder of last week and put on 54 before Munish went, caught Rabbani bowled Konchada, giving him his first wicket for the club and, in the same over, he got Johnson, caught by Gowda, a ringer from Tegernsee. Rabbani bowled well as did Brunskill who had a wicket maiden for his first over. Sestan got another LBW, not from umpiring this time, but as part of a genuine four-for. Nevertheless helped by the determined drive to top the wide boys table – 42 wides were given in 35 overs – the MICs finished on 208 for 8.

MCC needed to score at a rate of six runs per over and MCC openers, Soundararajan and Brunskill persued this with some intensity and after seven overs MCC were eight for four, rather a mirror image of the MICs performance of a week ago. Veser now took the crease and took their bowling apart scoring 69 off 36 balls including 13 fours and one six. Once he fell, LBW to Srini, it was more or less over for us with only Bäckstädt, a second ringer from Tegernsee, Palisetty and Garner reaching double figures. MCC were all out for 131 in 23.4 overs and it was, regrettably, too cold to visit the beer garden. On a positive note thought, the duck race is hotting up with many new entries.
