MCC named 14 for a home friendly against CCB. Due to some last minute bailage/toys and some more senior members of the club getting completely clunted the night before, only 8 of these turned up fit for the start, in addition to late sign-up Fudge.
MCC won the toss and batted. Weston & Brunskill opened up, and the partnership will be remembered for Westy hitting a baseball line drive straight into Jet’s head as the non-striker. Luckily he was wearing a helm, which will now need to be replaced. Westy’s nerve was shot and he returned to the pavillion shortly thereafter, followed closely by Clare and Algar. Jet and friendly organiser Igor put on 57 for the fourth wicket (watch out for Igor!), before Igor was bowled for his club high score of 16. Jet raised his first fifty for the club, and finished with 59. Wrighty and Fudge seal clubbed some late runs, before a late order collapse saw the spectating Majid called into bat – in his sandals. Fair play. MCC finished with 183/8.
After teas, Seb and Fudgey opened up. VC donned the gloves in his annual 15 over cymbals session behind the sticks. Seb bowled with good shape but couldn’t pick up a wicket. Weston and Algar also had wicketless spells, and it wasn’t until Paul came on with his legspinners that MCC broke the opening stand at 112. Tejas, who had turned up at tea, also had a trundle, and showed some future captaincy inclinations with his unorthodox field settings. Paul picked up the second and final wicket to fall, stumped by Seb. Des would have mentioned the wide count was 35 in 25 overs.
