Our last league game of the season was a very one sided affair thanks to some excellent batting and bowling from us. The less said about Punjab`s batting the better. With no chance of winning the league the only thing left to play for was pride for both teams. Captain Clare won the toss and decided to bat first on a very sunny day at the Hirschanger. Mark Lovell was restored to the side and set about getting some big runs on the board with his opening partner, Mark O’Meagher. The 1st 50 appeared on the board after 11 overs and we were well placed at the halfway stage – 84-0. The two Mark’s then stepped on the gas after re-fueling at drinks and raced to 150-0 at the 30 over stage with some devastating blows all around the ground. O`Meagher`s fine knock came to an end 24 short of a hundred with the score 184-0.

The Kashmiri Cobra (Majid Rabbani) entered the scene and was soon swinging his meat to good effect. Lovell was soon raising his meat as he recorded his maiden MCC league century. It was a high quality innings and he enjoyed the scenery from the other end as the Kashmiri Cobra blazed a rapid 47 before being run out on the last ball.

Punjab were left chasing an improbable 250 to win and their task was made even harder with early wickets falling. Turner was in cracking form behind the stumps as he picked up four dismissals. The Brisbane Bomber, Blades, bowled with good accuracy and picked up four wickets and was well backed up by Garner (3 wkts). Punjab offered very little resistance and were skittled for 34. A comfortable win for the MCC which allowed them to head to the chinese tower for refreshments nice and early. Everyone`s a winner.
